Hourly Range: $27.05 - $29.22
Position Summary:
Full time Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) position available at our Visions Youth Treatment Center in Bellingham, WA. Applicant will be working with young people suffering from chemical dependency. Applicants must have no history of alcohol or drug misuse for a period of two years prior to the time of employment.
This individual is responsible for providing direct counseling services to patients. The counselor is the agent for providing services to patients in a one-to-one or group format, performing assessments, evaluations, and intakes. Services are provided to adults, youth, and their families. Applicant should have demonstrated rapport, empathy for, and ability to communicate with recovery patients. These clients have a primary diagnosis of chemical dependency and may also have emerging mental health problems.
Applicants are expected to subscribe to the disease concept of chemical dependency with the belief that total abstinence is required for ongoing recovery from alcoholism and other drug addiction. This job description does not suggest or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee. The person in this position will be required to follow other instructions and to perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Counselor will understand the services at the organization follow a client- centered model with emphasis on integrated care.
Education and or Experience:
Must have an AA degree and must have a Washington State SUDP License or Washington State Department of Health.
Knowledgeable of a wide variety of therapeutic approaches and the ability to set and maintain therapeutic limits. The agency milieu mandates that the incumbent be flexible, versatile, and skilled in developing creative interventions that modify inappropriate behavior
Must have an understanding of the theory and practice of individual and group treatment of substance use clients to facilitate client self examination, expression of feelings, insight development, problem solving, and motivation to develop a chemically free lifestyle
CPR/First Aid certification required.
Ability to type fluently, with excellent grammar and spelling.
Proficiency in computer programs such as Word and Excel is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Must have and maintain First Aid and HIV certification.
The person in this position shall have no history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for a period of three (3) years immediately prior to the date of employment at the facility, and no misuse of alcohol or other drugs while employed at Sea Mar.
Bilingual English and Spanish not required but preferable.
