TheOffice of Equity (https://equity.wwu.edu/) brings together two complementary functions: the existing compliance function and a more robust education and community training function.

While the compliance function is currently housed in the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX Compliance, the vision for the new Office of Equity is much broader than the traditional compliance function. An assessment of patterns in our compliance issues can lead to a deeper understanding of barriers in Western’s systems and structures. The Office of Equity also encompasses the broader functions of engaging individuals and groups in education, dialogue and learning; building community; examining Western’s systems and structures through an equity lens; and providing visibility to, and advancing, key initiatives for inclusive student success and ADEI work on campus.

About the Position

The Program Director, ADEI Training, Development, and Strategic Initiatives is the lead institutional ADEI trainer and oversees the capacity building and assessment components of Western’s ADEI plan. Tasked with the development and implementation of ADEI training and professional development programs, the Program Director will collaborate with key university partners to assess the needs of target audiences and implement Senate Bill 5227 legislative requirements. The program director will lead and manage multiple programs and projects in furtherance of Western’s ADEI strategic priorities.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

20% - Strategic Planning - Develop and implement strategic initiatives in line with the Office of Equity ADEI plan and institutional strategic goals.

  • Collaborates with key stakeholders across divisions to identify and assess professional development and training needs.

  • Develop and implement a plan for capacity building (e.g. training and development).

  • Identify opportunities for community building through professional development.

30% - Program Design and Implementation

  • Design and oversee the development of program curricula and training materials that are diverse in scope, progressive, and meet the needs of target audiences.

  • Develop a year-long training plan for faculty, staff, and students that is diverse in scope and responsive to changing needs.

  • Develop and implement ongoing ADEI training and professional development for campus leaders.

  • Development and implement a train the trainer program that will expand the institutional capacity to meet ongoing professional development and training needs.

  • Ensure newly developed programs align with university strategic goals.

  • Design programs that foster an understanding of ideas related to diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility in instructional settings and how to address those priorities through training and programming.

30% - Project Management

  • Manage new programs offerings from development to implementation and assessment.

  • Lead cross-organizational teams in developing projects.

  • Manage program budget, timelines, and resources for programs and initiatives.

20% - Assessment and Program Effectiveness

  • Set program goals.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs.

  • Develop assessment tools to understand the needs of target audiences.

  • Track program outcomes and metrics to ensure goals are being met.

  • Conduct regular reviews and assessments to drive continuous improvement.

Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree and five years of experience in ADEI training and program development, organizational development, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environments.

Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced office.

Understanding of the complex nature of the work of diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility in institutions of higher education and how to address them through training and programming.

Excellent conflict management skills

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated strong training skills and ability to design, implement, and evaluate training, curricula and pedagogy for faculty, staff, and students.

Strong program development, management, and implementation skills

Preferred QualificationsA relevant graduate degree (e.g., education, organizational/social psychology, or closely related field, etc.).

Five or more years of experience developing a comprehensive educational program to affect cultural change in a large complex organization.

Experience working in a higher educational setting.

Salary Hiring range for position is $95,660 - $110,009/year. Through longevity position tops out at $124,358/year.
