About the DepartmentWestern's Anthropology Department is part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the largest college at WWU. The department maintains a four-field anthropology program with active undergraduate research labs and a vibrant MA research program. About the Position

Provides administrative support for students, faculty, and staff, including department front office & reception, advising, record-keeping, assisting with travel, purchasing and receiving, directing student employees, designing marketing materials, and managing social media sites. This includes detail-intensive work using spreadsheets, databases, content management software, Word documents, Adobe CC tools, SharePoint, and other university systems such as Banner and Canvas.

This is a part-time, 9-month cyclic position with benefits. The work schedule for this position is typically Monday - Friday, 20 hours per week on campus during the academic year.

Typical duties include:

  • Welcoming students and families, answering inquiries about the major, and front office duties

  • Coordinate arrangements for program activities such as meetings, conferences, and other events

  • Major and minor student advising and transcript evaluation

  • Establish and manage files and record statistical information of students

  • Maintain and update department website

  • Screen and post student employment opportunities, events, or activities to the Department website and/or social media sites

  • Design and compose correspondence, fliers, posters, brochures, and announcements related to program events and activities

  • Design and create department annual newsletter, brochures, and other marketing materials as assigned

  • Manage department social media accounts

  • Processing faculty travel

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent experience.

  • Two years of office experience or equivalent education/experience

  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to cultivating learning and working environments that are equitable and inclusive of students and employees with diverse cultural backgrounds and social identifies

  • Demonstrated ability to:

  • Maintain confidentiality

  • Work effectively, professionally, and collaboratively in a busy office environment

  • Maintain calm and professional demeanor in challenging situations

  • Communicate professionally and effectively at all levels of the university

  • Manage time well and work effectively under multiple deadlines and pressure situations in a flexible manner

  • Generate high-quality work with careful attention to detail

  • Multi-task and stay focused on job duties

  • Work independently

  • Follow established office procedures

  • High level of proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat

  • Demonstrated desktop publishing and/or graphic design skills for both print and web using Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.

  • Experience working in higher education.

  • Experience with SharePoint or other file management system

  • Experience with Banner

  • Social Media skills and experience coordinating online presence.

  • Experience with Web Design using a CMS such as Drupal.

Salary $1,845 - $2,469 (@50%) depending on qualifications and experience
