Hourly Rate: $151.63

Annual Salary: $302,886

Position Summary:

Sea Mar Behavioral Health’s diverse and quickly expanding program is seeking a full-time Physician Psychiatrist for our Behavioral Health Department in Bellingham, WA and Oak Harbor, WA.

The Physician Psychiatrist is part of a care team working to provide quality comprehensive services to Sea Mar patients. The Physician Psychiatrist will work collaboratively with staff to provide team-based coordinated care. The Physician Psychiatrist provides psychiatric care services to clients of Sea Mar Community Health Center in accordance with training, experience, certification, insurance and licensure in a manner consistent with guidelines established in the principles of practice of Sea Mar and its mission statement. 

The Physician Psychiatrist provides psychiatric care services to clients at Sea Mar’s outpatient Behavioral Health sites and at Sea Mar’s medical clinics. At the Behavioral Health Program, Physician Psychiatrist provides clients with counseling and case management services, in addition to psychiatric services. At the medical clinics, Physician Psychiatrist provides clients with evaluation and medication follow-up: at the medical clinics Physician Psychiatrist does not provide counseling services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Face to face psychiatric evaluations with clients to determine psychiatric diagnosis.

  • Ongoing medication review services to assess the effects of prescribed medication

  • Consultation with Behavioral Health clinical staff and Sea Mar medical clinic providers to review cases and provide recommendation about diagnosis, medications, and other treatment considerations.

  • Phone consultation on demand with Sea Mar physicians so that they can prescribe initial medications until such time as clients can be seen for a face to face for psychiatric/medication review and further evaluation of mental health service needs.

  • Chart documentation to include written notes of psychiatric evaluations, medication reviews, and any other client contacts. The Physician Psychiatrist shall maintain a Psychiatric Medication Chart, make copies of all prescriptions, and obtain all necessary medication consent signatures from each client.

  • Professional supervision to the assigned staff and other paraprofessionals.

  • Work closely with administrative personnel including Medical and Behavioral Directors.

  • Communicates clearly with each client. Use words and terminology that a patient can understand.

  • Listen to the patient and allow the patient to be heard.

  • Train appropriate staff to always be helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable of good customer service manners.

  • Respond to all client/employee complaints, phone calls and emails in a timely manner.

  • Be available to listen to staff concerns, give constructive feedback and use open

communication.

Qualifications: 

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Education: MD or DO.

  • Training: Successful Completion of an approved Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) three year residency training program in Psychiatry.

  • License: Washington State License to practice as a Psychiatrist.

  • Experience: Three or more years of experience providing psychiatric services.

  • Physician Psychiatrist shall have familiarity with Washington mental health law as it pertains to involuntary treating.

Conditions of employment:

  • Must sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering all patient related information.

  • Must receive a background check from DSHS and Washington State Patrol.

  • Must comply with all ethical standards of Sea Mar and those required by DOH (Washington State Department of Health).

  • Shall have no history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for a period of three (3) years immediately prior to the date of the employment at the facility, and no misuse of alcohol or other drugs while employed at Sea Mar Community Health Center.
