Anvil Corporation Controller in Bellingham, Washington
*JOB SUMMARY: *Oversees department of 6.5 FTEs. The Controller is responsible for the accurate and timely financial management of the organization; including oversight of all financial, accounting, and reporting activities and ensures all Anvil assets are properly safeguarded through oversight of Anvil's internal control framework. Additional responsibilities include coordination and preparation of the monthly forecast and annual budgeting activities; timely financial and operational analysis; day-to-day treasury management; financial, insurance, and retirement plan audits; and all federal and state taxes and reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Manages, coaches, mentors, and provides timely and frequent feedback loops to ensure engagement and high-quality work performance of all department team members.
Develops and maintains internal control framework of guidelines, policies, and procedures for budgeting, cash management, investment and banking activities, financial reporting, cyber-security management of financial records and personal protected information, procurement, vendor management, revenue recognition, travel reimbursement, expense reporting, asset management, record retention practices, payroll change authorizations, labor cost accounting, and general administration. Ensures Anvil's internal control framework is compliant with GAAP and current FASB pronouncements.
Ensures accounting and payroll systems and related application interfaces are accurately configured to ensure no breaks or gaps in internal control framework exist. Acts as primary Subject Matter Expert and owner of all new functionality development and all break/fix resolutions. Partners with IT and leads automation efforts impacting Business Services.
Oversees the day-to-day investment and banking relationships, ensure assets are properly safeguarded, resolves transactional processing issues, and assists the CFO with long term investment and banking strategies.
Oversees Billing and Payroll teams to ensure organization is applying correct terms and conditions as outlined in each client contract. Partners with Manager of Business Development and Marketing, Program Managers, and Chief Operating Officer to develop practices and workflows that enable Anvil to meet client contract provisions correctly, efficiently, and cost-effectively. Coordinates client contract audits, when applicable, and resolves client contract issues.
Reviews accounts receivable, aging reports, and assist Billing and Accounts Receivable Supervisor with collections, as needed. Collaborates with the Billing team to identify areas of opportunity in invoicing and client portal uploads.
Partners with Human Resources Manager, third-party benefit partners. and payroll team to ensure Anvil systems and payroll processing workflows and activities are compliant with federal and state employment laws. Ensures accuracy of all payroll processing and related tax reporting activities.
Responsible for the accurate completion and timely delivery of Anvil's monthly management reporting packages, financial statements, and forecasts. Works with appropriate members of the Anvil Management Team to analyze results and identify opportunities and areas of improvement.
Responsible for the timely completion of annual financial statement audit and tax returns. Works with outside audit firm and tax professionals to ensure all federal and state tax requirements are being met. Leads cross functional team to research SALT laws, as needed, when new geographical areas of operation are being evaluated.
Supports the CFO in the preparation and completion of the annual business plan and rolling 5-year strategic business plan. Partners with department leaders to ensure timely delivery of business plan workpapers.
