Amazon Sr. Software Dev Engineer, Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) - Inventory Controllership in Bellevue, Washington

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers the physical engine at the heart of Amazon. AFT builds and operates software, hardware, and the processes that run the global network of fulfillment centers that move billions of units of inventory, employ tens of thousands of people, and ensure that customers get what they want when promised. We do this by building automated solutions to handle things that technology does well, while relying on people to handle things that humans do well.

The Inventory Controllership (ICON) team provides the authoritative source of financial information for billions of inventory units that Amazon holds in its Fulfillment Centers (FC), worldwide. As new inventory arrives at the FC, it is routed to optimal locations within the FC based on space availability, customer demand and buying patterns. ICON tracks end to end financial life cycle of these packages, building systems that model new business workflows and actively track process deviations.

We are seeking a Sr. Software Development Engineer to join the ICON team based out of Bellevue, WA. In ICON, we are building the next generation inventory management system for Amazon. This system will empower our customers to automatically track, trace, and reconcile transaction-level financial records at Amazon scale, covering a wide diversity of business models across worldwide markets. As a Sr. Software Development Engineer in ICON, you will have firsthand exposure to designing and leading scalable systems that record billions of transactions in real-time every day and leverage Big Data approaches to provide new business insights to Amazon.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of robust and scalable Big Data platforms and services.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions for complex and high-impact projects

  • Decompose complex technical challenges into simple, maintainable, and effective solutions.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by mentoring team members, offering constructive feedback, and driving technical excellence.

  • Share expertise on performance, scalability, system architecture, and engineering best practices to raise the bar across the engineering team.

  • Define and advocate for secure, scalable, and low-latency services and architecture.

  • Collaborate with product management and operations teams to align on business objectives, prioritize tasks, and ensure smooth execution.

  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and help shape the technical roadmap for future projects.

Inventory

AFT’s Inventory team delivers complex, innovative, scalable solutions to manage the end-to-end lifecycle of all physical goods across the Amazon fulfillment network, ensuring both inventory record accuracy and safe inventory handling for billions of items.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in financial services or other large-scale data environments.

  • Experience with AWS technologies (S3, EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, etc.).

  • Strong understanding of software security, performance tuning, and scalability best practices.

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.

  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality software in a fast-paced environment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
