Are you interested in helping Amazon make history and redefine the meaning of ‘fast’ in eCommerce? We are the Same Day Delivery Experience team and are in the early innings of reinventing the Amazon shopping experience to make Amazon the first place customers think to shop when they need something today, wherever they are in the world. We’re looking for a Software Development Manager who can help ensure we have a compelling and friction-free ‘delivery in hours’ experience available to our customers, and help drive continuous innovation and improvement of the delivery experience across all phases of shopping, buying, and post purchase experience.

Key job responsibilities

  • Hire and develop a diverse team of engineers and collaborate with Product Managers, partner teams Software Managers, QAMs and TPMs.

  • Establish a culture of excellence including building for long term success of the program.

  • Own the technology roadmap that will drive future products and features that directly affect our growth in this critical space.

  • Partner with stakeholders and leaders within and outside the team to understand requirements, set priorities, and communicate direction and progress.

  • Own key decisions on building new services vs reusing / repurposing existing services.

  • Manage the agile development process and methodology to deliver tech requirements on time and with a high-degree of precision and quality.

A day in the life

You will be working in a fast-paced environment, with a team of smart software engineers, to design and build the right technical solutions to meet the needs of the business. You will be responsible for services that can be deployed globally, delivering an exceptional customer experience, provide thought leadership in a fast-paced development environment, and partner with stakeholders and senior leaders to ensure the success of this program. We care about both delighting customers and high quality software; we don’t sacrifice one for the other. We’re looking for someone with a demonstrated track record of highly-scalable, global software solutions.

About the team

Speed Shopping Experience (SSE) is part of Sub-Same-Day benefit program. We provide placements pre and post AddToCart to help customers basket build and get their products as fast as possible and ensuring consistent delivery messaging for Sub-Same-Day products on Detail Page, Cart and Post Checkout. Our vision is to provide a basket building platform that will allow customers to easily discover products that are aligned to their shopping journey. We also keep speed customers informed about their order status as accurately as possible enabling transparency and reducing customer frustration and ambiguity.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
