Amazon Senior Risk Manager, Transportation Risk & Compliance in Bellevue, Washington

In this role, you will work closely with Amazon's Last Mile transportation businesses to build strategic initiatives and frameworks that support carrier partners in meeting legal and contractual obligations relating to business practices, driver / provider eligibility, and safety standards. You will be expected to understand laws and regulations applicable to the Last Mile business, assess effectiveness of existing risk and control concepts, and propose innovative mitigation strategies that enable business success. You must clearly and concisely communicate identified findings to senior leadership, and will be responsible for partnering with cross-functional teams to design workflows in support of risk-reduction activities. You will set program objectives, assign appropriate metrics that measure success, and drive business changes that reduce risk. You will work collaboratively with business stakeholders, safety, legal, tech, and field operations teams to implement world-class, customer-centric, compliance and risk management solutions

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead control testing (manual and automated controls) across all phases of assessment and testing to evaluate effectiveness while connecting the dots with the bigger picture, identifying patterns and trends, and reporting (written and oral) findings/recommendations to leadership through excellent communication skills

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of business processes across globally dispersed, complex, transportation programs, identifying potential risks to Amazon's global transportation businesses while developing a deep subject matter expertise across complex and nuanced business and operational processes

  • Ability to define, develop, and implement risk programs and drive improvements quantified with metrics

  • Demonstrable problem-solving skills using data and insights to drive both tactical and strategic business decisions, with a proven ability to lead, monitor, and drive projects through to completion on time

  • Ability to influence internal/external stakeholders to drive timely and high-quality results with a proven ability to establish successful partnerships with internal and external teams to execute both tactical and strategic initiatives

  • Excellent at documenting and summarizing complex processes, distilling complex information to extract actionable risk and control information for senior leadership

  • This position requires the ability to travel periodically

A day in the life

The Sr. Risk Manager will lead the control evaluation and testing workstream within their regional area of focus and designated risk/compliance vertical. The individual will: 1) leverage their risk / compliance / data expertise to identify, design, implement, and improve risk frameworks to support compliance and reduce risk, 2) work closely and collaboratively with tech and business partners to implement world-class, customer-centric, risk-reducing solutions and drive process improvements (e.g., documenting requirements, influencing roadmaps and technology decisions, developing, testing, and/or scaling programs and frameworks, etc.), 3) deep dive compliance hot spots, and emerging risks, present findings/recommendations to leadership, 4) continuously analyze program insights, mechanisms, and effectiveness for improvement opportunities.

Transportation Risk and Compliance (TRC) is the voice of risk and compliance for Amazon’s transportation businesses across 24 countries. We proactively identify and manage risks through mitigation strategies and provide assurance that Amazon and our carrier partners comply with the highest transportation and legal standards (including legislative, regulatory, and contractual). Anchored by sound subject matter expertise, processes, and growing technology solutions, our TRC leaders improve public safety and enable business growth as we work diligently to serve our customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience

  • Experience building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across the organization to act without having a direct reporting relationship

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • Experience in internal audit and risk management or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent

  • Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent

  • Knowledge of internal control frameworks (i.e. COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency

  • Experience with Internal Controls, Internal Audit and IT Audit

  • Big 4 experience

  • CPA, CMA, CIA, CISA, or similar risk, audit, or compliance credentials

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification

  • Understanding of basic data analytical skills and tools such as SQL (intermediate to advanced)

  • Ability to thrive in a start-up like environment

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $109,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
