Description

Amazon Air (AIR) is seeking a Senior Program Manager of Aviation Cargo Operations to lead the development of AIR’s aviation-centric cargo programs and initiatives.

The Senior Program Manager serves the Global Aviation Operations team as a single threaded leader of cargo operations by developing a long-term integrated AIR cargo ops strategy, organizing a cohesive standardized program, and acting as a single voice for Aviation Operations.

This leadership role is responsible to identify, develop, and execute standards that allow seamless integration of new types of cargo operations into AIR’s existing carrier programs. Establishing project management tools is a foundational part of the role and focused on establishing milestones, goals and solutions that are safety and customer centric. This position will work closely with Amazon’s Air Cargo Team, Strategy Team, Ground Operations teams, Partner Air Carriers, and other cargo/ground operation stakeholders to develop scalable long-term AIR program improvements.

This senior manager will act as a project manager and liaison between the Air Cargo team and Aviation Operations program managers; specifically, program owners of the Weight and Balance, Dangerous Goods, Ramp/Ground Ops Air Carrier Standards, Safety Investigations, Aviation Training, Technical Publications, Oversight Program, and Safety Management Program.

This position will require strong communication with executive leaders, corporate managers, technical product managers, airline carrier partner leadership, and third-party vendors. This leader will be responsible for project managing cargo related initiatives that require cross team and company collaboration (internal and external customers), simplifying existing processes, developing global standards that bond cargo related programs across AIR’s global network, and developing scalable automation tools. This leader will provide Amazon Air with the necessary mechanisms and resources to meet or exceed all regulations, operational performance goals, and operational metrics. This position will create and report metrics and write various forms of program/project business and safety communications to improve compliance and cross-divisional coordination within the overall Amazon Air program.

Key job responsibilities

  • Project Management of AIR Cargo initiatives and procedural development involving Aviation Ops Programs (Weight and Balance program, Dangerous Goods, Ramp/Ground Ops Air Carrier Standards, Safety Investigations, Aviation Training, Technical Publications, Oversight Program, and Safety Management Program.)

  • Create structure and organization to allow the integration of cargo related initiatives into established air carrier related safety and compliance programs.

  • Establish cargo program standards across internal and external AIR gateway/Hub locations and global standards between global regions

  • Manage feasibility, resources, and cost-structures for cargo initiatives owned by Aviation Operations programs

  • Coordinate cargo project and program development efforts with Air Cargo and Strategy Teams

  • Develop scalable, automation-centric business tools for integrating cargo operations, to include processes for customer vetting, air carrier requirements, and AIR standards.

  • Serve as Global Aviation Operations’ single voice for cargo operations

A day in the life

This leader will spend their working days researching and understanding the business/customer needs to develop a long-term program development plan. They will be monitoring the day to day operation to ensure the processes and software tools are working as intended while simultaneously designing and making incremental progress towards AIR's long-term vision. This leader will spend time project managing, assessing compatibility of existing process and software functionality, innovating solutions, speaking with customers (corporate managers and site associates, air carriers), collaborating with Air Science and Technology, writing whitepapers, analyzing metrics, and contributing to AIR’s continuous improvement efforts.

About the team

This role is part of the Global Aviation Operations team. Aviation Operations contributes to Air's Safety Management System (SMS) by managing and producing safety assurance inputs from programs related to aviation, air carrier regulatory programs, and ramp/ground operations (such as the weight and balance, training, dangerous goods, ground ops procedures, technical publications, and ramp safety investigations).

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience

  • 5+ years of supply chain experience

  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of driving process improvements experience

  • Master's degree, or MBA in management, business administration, economics, engineering, marketing

  • Experience in complex problem solving, and working in a tight schedule environment

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $92,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
