Want to help build Amazon’s next generation of businesses? The Rapid & Rural Logistics (R2L) team handles the most ambitious and challenging fulfillment problems. Our software helps enable Sub Same Day delivery, Rural Super Rural delivery, and more.

Our team builds software that empower our product managers and operations managers to offer the most innovative of Amazon’s services, such as scheduled delivery, temperature-controlled goods, and white glove delivery service to name a few. Supply chain, warehouse management, and delivery operations is where the magic takes place at Amazon, transforming a “buy now” click on our website into an on-time delivery and a happy customer. We do this at lightning speed, thanks to the software that you’ll help us build. While Amazon is large, we operate like a start-up within Amazon, opting for smaller sprints and continuous deployments.

We’re looking for a full stack developer to guide our team in creating new applications from scratch. This developer will lead the design and development of new systems that allow our business to continue to scale globally and offer our customers world class service at break-neck speeds. You’ll be the key technical stakeholder working with Product Managers and end-users to define world class tools. You can utilize the full breadth of AWS products and services to build scalable low-maintenance applications. You’ll own the decisions regarding the data store, application layer, and front-end. You will also build back-end services to help automate systems.

Key job responsibilities

As a key member of the engineering team, you will have influence on our product strategy by helping define the product features, refine system architecture, and spearhead best practices that enable a quality product.

You will be successfully setting the foundation for the next phase of the product and beyond. A commitment to teamwork, hustle, and strong communication skills (to both business and technical partners) are absolute requirements. Creating a reliable, scalable, and high-performance service requires exceptional technical expertise, a sound understanding of the fundamentals of Computer Science, and practical experience building large-scale distributed systems.

You should enjoy working on complex system software, is customer-centric, and feels strongly about building good software as well as making that software achieve its operational goals.

A day in the life

The bulk of an average day is centered around designing and building features to enhance existing applications.

Otherwise other elements of a day that happen are:

· Working on ad-hoc requests and bug fixes

· Participating in doc reviews with product managers and stakeholders

· Supporting and delegating tickets while on-call

· Team meetings and presentations/learning sessions

This team stays close to our customers and strives to always build and design our tech with them in mind with a focus on end-to-end user experience. We also pride ourselves on having an open and ongoing dialogue with our stakeholders and customers so we can build trust and innovate on their behalf. Someone who joins this team will be engaged with engineers and stakeholders dedicated to supporting Sub Same Day delivery and other businesses; focusing on delivery optimization and emerging business needs with a balance of scrappy vs long term supported solutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
