Amazon Program Manager II, Supply Chain Operations in Bellevue, Washington

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

In this role, you will be part of the team that spearheads new initiatives to enable new capabilities for AWS's supply chain operations. This is a high-judgment role, where you will need to drive projects to completion with minimal oversight. You will need to partner closely with other teams to develop a deep understanding of supply chain operations and will be the authoritative voice representing the entire AWS supply chain during contract negotiations with public sector customers. You must be able to translate customer and regulatory requirements into actionable deliverables, determine what is a true requirement versus a nice-to-have, and understand how to find the balance between cybersecurity and business objectives. You will help develop/maintain a multiyear capability development roadmap, provide project management for cross-functional initiatives, and recommend initiatives based on insights from the supply chain optimization team.

The ideal candidate is a leader that can think and communicate strategically while also executing tactical actions. On one hand, you will directly interact with senior leaders and executives and must be fluent in executive communication to gain support for new initiatives and obtain consensus. On the other hand, you will also be responsible for delivering on your initiatives, and must have both excellent interpersonal and writing skills to work across myriad teams in the supply chain, security, and legal organizations to deliver results in an ambiguous operating environment.

Key job responsibilities

• Driving consensus for acceptable levels for risks and best practices across the supply chain and influencing where no formal reporting structures exist

• Proactively working with other organizations to anticipate gaps between teams, processes, and system architectures to help AWS produce the best possible results for our customers

• Articulating in writing (actual papers, not slides) key issues and strategic initiatives for senior leadership

• Creating plans that have objective, measurable success criteria and communicate with technical and non-technical audiences at various organizational levels

• Acting as a thought and business leader in the field of cybersecurity, supply chain risk management, and supply chain operations

A day in the life

Our job is to let ops focus on ops. The larger organization has teams performing manufacturing, logistics, and reverse/recycling operations, and we take on the tough projects that would otherwise distract those teams from delivering operational excellence.

Some examples:

-Representing the supply chain during customer engagements and negotiations

-Spearheading new cross-functional services and capabilities

-Working with other organizations to address/mitigate supply chain risk

-Otherwise connecting the dots across a complex, global supply chain

About the team

Our team is part of the organization responsible for physical aspects of the AWS hardware supply chain, such as manufacturing datacenter racks, logistical operations to transport racks and other equipment to/from datacenters, and recycling parts at product end-of-life. We are the bridge-builders, connecting the different functional areas and working across other organizations to improve our supply chain. As such, we are the jack-of-all-trades team, jumping in to support the larger organization where needed.
