Description and Qualifications
The Organ Preservation Program Manager (OPPM) is accountable for the management of day-to-day operations of the organ preservation program. This position is responsible for leading the organ perfusion and preservation program to maximize organ utilization. The OPPM will supervise preservation and perfusion activities, training, and performance evaluation, and coaching of the Organ Preservation Team (OPT).
The OPPM is also responsible for collaborating with the Learning and Development team with developing and implementing all aspects of organ preservation training and continued professional development. This includes but is not limited to onboarding, didactic and clinical training, maintaining training materials, and coordinating training activities.
General Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, and monitors the implementation of initiatives that will improve abdominal utilization through organ preservation activities.
Safe and effective manipulation of preservation and perfusion equipment used in normothermic machine and regional perfusion and hypothermic machine perfusion.
Monitors the preservation parameter during perfusion and assimilates information to make prompt clinical assessments and takes the appropriate action.
Assists the Organ Utilization Director in hiring and onboarding the OPT.
Facilitates and assists with on-going education of the OPT.
Coordinates assignment of monthly clinical on-call schedule, including revisions.
Assists the Organ Utilization Director in the development and day-to-day management of departmental budget.
Routinely engages in processes to improve management of preservation program costs and potentially reduce costs.
Works in concert with Director, Organ Utilization, Surgical Recovery Manager, Organ Utilization Program Manager, and Surgical Organ Recovery Specialist(s), and Quality and Regulatory Affairs Department to reduce risk and ensure quality processes are in place.
Training
Complies with AOPO, CMS, and UNOS Guidelines.
Works in conjunction with the Learning and Development team and Manager, Surgical Recovery and Organ Utilization Program Manager to assist with training operations for OPT and other clinical staff.
Assists in developing and revising training materials for OPT members, utilizing multiple media such as PowerPoint, competency assessments, and job aids.
Support Organ Clinical Services staff as a clinical resource for organ preservation.
Assist in training Surgical First Assist Team (SFAT) for organ preservation.
Assist in implementation of continuing education programs and competencies for OPT members and SFAT for organ preservation activities.
Serves as a clinical resource for Hospital Development Department by providing educational in-services on the organ preservation process.
Clinical Responsibilities
Maintains clinical skills, participates in on-call schedule as directed by Organ Utilization Director. Available for consultation by phone outside of regular working hours as needed.
Office hours as required and/or assigned by Organ Utilization Director, including attendance at organizational, departmental, and interdepartmental meetings.
Functions independently as an Organ Preservation Specialist.
Takes primary responsibility for organ perfusion and preservation and related activities.
Manages the preservation process and ensures all aspects perfusion are performed to optimal levels and in adherence with regulatory policies and organizational procedures.
Manages organ preservation devices including lifecycle planning, scheduled maintenance, and repairs.
Analyzes clinical data and perfusion and preservation trends to guide decision-making on organ suitability.
Identifies case-specific barriers to organ utilization, develops strategy to minimize risk of organ loss and maximizes opportunities for transplantation through organ perfusion and preservation.
Oversees chain of custody over recovered organs placed on machined perfusion (e.g. Machined Hypothermic Kidney Preservation, Machined Normothermic Perfusion).
Effectively communicates relevant perfusion and preservation information to members of the local and national transplant programs to minimize organ cold ischemia time and reduce the time from offer to acceptance.
Participates in the development of perfusion and preservation initiatives focused on increasing abdominal organ utilization including but not limited to machine perfusion.
Maintains the ability to function as an expert and resource to OPT, Surgical First Assists and Organ Utilization Coordinators in organ preservation and preservation and related activities.
Effectively communicates and coordinates with transplant and donor hospital professionals and donation organizations.
Ensures the consistent application and compliance of regulatory standards/requirements and develops preservation departmental policies and procedures.
Collaborates with transplant center professionals and other organ recovery teams to facilitate successful transplant outcomes.
Admin and Quality Responsibilities
Participate in timely resolution of non-conformance investigations and development of appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
Each month by the prescribed due date, complete and submit a reconciliation of business expenses charged on your corporate VISA card. Follow-up on any issues in a timely manner.
Assist in LifeCenter Northwest strategic planning along with the Organ Utilization Team’s operations plan. Based on quality reviews of allocation and logistic processes, make recommendations to the Director, Organ Utilization and/or Quality and Regulatory Affairs Department for continual quality improvement projects.

An ability to accurately present the donation process in formal and informal educational opportunities.
Must be compassionate, conscientious, ethical, and possess effective interpersonal skills that allow for effective communication with health care professionals and donor families.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; A minimum of 5 years documented organ perfusion and preservation experience can be substituted for academic requirements.
Minimum of 5 years field experience in organ preservation.
2 years relevant management experience preferred.
Minimum 2 years experience as a Certified Transplant Preservationist (CPT) or CPTC.
Requires a valid driver’s license and access to an insured automobile for work-related functions at expected times.

The pay range for this role is provided above. Where a candidate’s compensation falls within this range is based on several bona fide factors such as experience, tenure, and other specialized knowledge.
