Meet Our Team

DTC’s many software engineering teams build applications for the web, mobile, tablets, connected TVs, consoles, and other streaming devices. DTC’s Boundary Services team is responsible for building and maintaining the Gateway, Service Mesh and a few microservices that provide common functionality to the client and backend services. This position is for the Boundary Traffic Management team which is a sub team of the bigger Boundary Services org. This team focusses primarily on the Ingress and Service Mesh components of the stack. We are a fast-growing, global engineering group crucial to WBD’s future. We’re hiring an engineering manager who is comfortable turning the needs of our engineering community into thoughtful design

and architecture, serving as a leader for the team as the developers build software components.

What You’ll Do

As an Engineering Manager on the Boundary Traffic Management team (BTM) you'll be part of the larger Operational Engineering group who is responsible for building a truly global, self-service cloud platform(PaaS) to enable Global Tech’s growing number of engineering teams to build, deploy, run and operate

their services in a fully autonomous fashion. Your role will focus on setting team practices, goals and coaching. You embrace modern, rigorous software development practices that emphasize testability, repeatability, and self-service automation. You will help drive technical decision-making, in support of the global cloud platform. Your team focuses on architecting and building new features and automation to enhance the Ingress stack and Service Mesh while supporting the existing infrastructure.

Who You Are

  • You bring passion and enthusiasm to your engineering team.

  • You have a track record of leading top performing teams.

  • You thrive under minimal supervision with the ability to self-motivate and self-organize within the organizational structure.

  • You have experience managing a team that supports and operates a cloud-based platform.

  • You measure everything, make decisions based on data, are consumer-focused, and take immense pride in your work.

The ideal candidate for this role will also match the following statements:

  • You have the ability to delegate – at both the task and project level – to appropriate team members and are able to ensure that the right results are achieved even without your constant oversight.

  • Your written and verbal communication skills are top-notch. You can distill key points out of complex technical descriptions to share with non-technical stakeholders, adapting your language and style of communication depending on the audience. You communicate through data, dates, and facts using emotion judiciously to motivate and inspire.

  • Given a larger business goal, you can facilitate ramping up an existing team or building a new team, including estimating the needed skills and team size, defining processes, team structure, and means of collaboration. You have repeatedly demonstrated the ability to hit these goals.

  • You have shown the ability to make great hiring decisions as evidenced by the performance of engineers on your team, and you can retain and develop the best engineers.

  • You have demonstrated the capacity to make decisions for more than one engineering team or functional area showing that your judgment is fungible.

  • You raise the quality bar of your team by creating a culture that ensures high levels of engineering and operational excellence.

  • You foster an environment of inclusiveness, psychological safety and ensure your team has fun while solving hard problems.

Your Technical Know-How

In addition, your technical expertise should match well to the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 3+ years of experience managing an engineering team

  • Hands-on experience working with API Gateways and Service Meshes

  • Hands-on experience with designing and maintaining Cloud infrastructure with at least one cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure, or other)

  • Experience with the development and operation of high throughput systems supporting hundreds of developers or more.

  • Operational experience (i.e. on-call rotation, incident response)

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with remote peers across disparate geographies and time zones.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with particular emphasis on technical documentation (including diagramming)

  • Ability to administer a team’s agile process (creating exemplary tickets in Jira, sprint planning, etc)

How We Get Things Done…

This last bit is probably the most important! Here at WBD, our guiding principles are the core values by which we operate and are central to how we get things done. You can find them at www.wbd.com/guiding-principles/ along with some insights from the team on what they mean and how they show up in their day to day.
