Description and Qualifications

The Hospital De velopment (HD) Trainersupports the mission and goals of LifeCenter Northwest (LCNW) by offering in the field HD support, serving as HD AOC, and supporting the training and development of HD employees who have completed on-boarding. The HD Trainer assists with the development, implementation, and documentation of curriculum based on identified needs, performance expectations, and applicable standards and regulations.

The HD Trainer, serving as HD AOC, plays a critical role in directly overseeing the day-to-day complexities limiting LCNW’s ability to move donation forward as it relates to HD support for referrals and case activity across the region. This position collaborates with HD, clinical AOC, Resource Triage Coordinator (RTC) and Family Services AOC (FS AOC) to provide leadership and guidance to clinical staff and the HD team with complex cases and escalation protocols. The HD Trainer is an expert resource for HD staff on internal and external escalation protocols, ongoing training and resource development, onsite and remote support at hospitals, and real-time peer guidance during complex cases or hospital activities. This position will have a blended schedule of on-call within business hours and after hours, serving as an escalation and training specialist.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Hospital Development Administrator on Call

  • Engages proactively in high potential referrals and active donor cases, provides direction to LCNW staff regarding escalation protocols, regulatory requirements, case logistics, conflict management, and HD-specific case support.

  • Provides thorough, in-depth guidance to clinical, FS, and HD team members during referral and case activity.

  • Utilizes highly developed HD expertise and knowledge of escalation processes to provide conflict management with healthcare teams.

  • Is subject matter expert to HD Coordinators (HDCs), HD Program Managers (HDPMs), and Community Partner Program Manager (CPPM) in donation processes including escalation, regulations, and communication standards. Ensures consistent practice aimed at maximizing donation potential and organ donor outcomes.

  • Acts as the first line of communication for HDPMs and HDCs by providing real-time expertise and oversight aimed at maximizing donation during the referral, authorization, and recovery processes for organ and tissue cases. Works in concert with the clinical AOC, RTC, and FS AOC.

  • Responsible for effective communication and coordination with medical professionals, hospital leadership, and donation organizations.

    Hospital Development Training Development and Execution

  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct training programs on escalation and complex case scenarios for individual HD staff, the HD department, and cross-departmental teams.

  • Develop and refine training programs, work instructions, and job aids on internal and external escalation.

  • Facilitates the regularly scheduled HD AOC Meeting for all team members who are on the HD AOC rotation.

  • Professionally represents LifeCenter Northwest and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Works with internal and external partners in-person or virtually to educate, collaborate and identify opportunities to maximize organ recovery and transplantation.

  • Problem-solves with team members and provides expertise, both remotely and onsite, in all areas of the donation process in order for HD to best respond to referral and case activity.

  • Facilitates case debriefs and reviews with the AOC, RTC, ORC/ODC, FSS/FSC, HD team, clinical operations leadership, and Medical Director/Advisors as appropriate.

  • Uses training, experience, and knowledge to identify cases that need internal review.

  • Sets up reviews with the appropriate individuals and leads a debrief or case review focused on learning points to increase case outcomes and organ utilization.

  • Utilizes the EMR Access Database to mitigate EMR access-related HD Call escalations in real time and collaborates with HDPMs and HDCs to maintain and update the database.

  • Leads process for ensuring accurate and complete Hospital Profiles to assist with case and referral support

  • Submits appropriate documentation for all training events attended

    Ongoing Education, Staff Development, and Account Management

  • Collaborate with HD leadership to meet the continuing education needs of the HD department.

  • Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of professional education activities related to improving overall performance in organ and tissue donation.

  • Collaborate with HD leadership to go “on-site” with HD staff to observe, coach, and sign-off skills development and evaluate opportunities for improvement.

  • Engage in presentations, education and best practice sharing with groups outside of the organization. Serve as an HD leader and expert by maintaining best practice knowledge, and networking with external partners.

  • Serve as a resource for HD staff for both donation knowledge and logistic problem-solving.

  • As needed, provide standard HD account management to specific unassigned hospitals to assist with leaves and vacancies.

  • Lead and assist in initiatives and projects with the focus on improving processes and/or outcomes as assigned by leadership. Assist in the delivery of information and roll-out of new processes.

  • Actively involved in meetings and projects as assigned. Serve as a resource for HD and other departments including giving presentations.

    Core Competency Program Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Learning & Development Department and the HD Training Program Manager, assists with HD documentation and core competencies.

  • In collaboration with HD leadership, HD Training Program Manager, and the Learning & Development Department, assists with development, implementation, and utilization of the core competency assessments to ensure staff are meeting required core competencies.

  • In collaboration with the HD managers, conduct field observations, assess core competencies and training needs of HD staff.

  • Manages special projects focused on improving HD training processes and outcomes.

    Schedule Obligations

    Participates in a variable schedule including both on-call and business hours to provide real-time critical thinking and decision making for daily clinical operations.

  • With Manager oversight, self-schedules to cover the call schedule with weekday, weeknight, and weekend shifts.

  • Expected to be on call 7 days per month

  • Coordinate scheduling of the HD AOC calendar to ensure comprehensive and adequate coverage.

  • Responsible for ensuring up-to-date coverage in the HD AOC calendar and within all internal scheduling systems.

  • Attends all required meetings as assigned by HD Manager and Director and is reasonably available during business hours to assist with projects and provide expertise.

  • Acts as an escalation and training expert in job functions outside of actively managing HD AOC.

  • Attends mandatory meetings and communicates information to the AOC team as appropriate.

    Supervision

  • This position has no formal supervisory responsibility. This position indirectly influences others.

    Other Responsibilities

  • This position may include up to 50% travel time throughout DSA.

  • Performs other related duties as required by the needs of the company and the leadership team.

  • Complies with applicable laws, regulations, and LifeCenter policies and procedures.

    Physical Activities/Requirements

  • This position requires on-call responsibilities and travel may be required for this position; must be prepared to travel by automobile and aircraft within and outside the LifeCenter service area.

  • This position requires the ability to effectively operate phones, computers, and other office equipment.

  • The individual must have the ability to communicate clearly using the English language to accurately convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the phone.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Generally, working conditions do not require exposure to hazardous materials nor extremes in health and safety hazards. Work is normally performed in an office or hospital setting as well as other business environments.

  • This position is required to follow hospital immunization, health screening, and background check requirements. Immunizations and tests will be provided by LifeCenter as required.

  • The employee is required to move or lift up to 25 pounds with or without assistance.

    ANTICIPATED WEEKLY TIME COMMITMENT

    The duties of this position will typically require 37 hours per week. This position requires on-call availability, including evening and weekend work.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

  • Relevant work experience can be considered as a substitution for academic requirements.

  • Three years’ experience in the Donation field specializing in Hospital Development or any similar combination of education and experience is required.

  • A minimum of five years’ work experience in a health care environment or related field is strongly preferred.

  • A minimum of five years of demonstrated success in training, program development, conflict management, and public speaking is strongly preferred.

  • Requires a valid driver’s license and access to an insured automobile or the ability to arrive and depart from work and work-related functions at expected times.

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or applicable medical or religious exemption will be required as a condition of employment upon offer. For those that need to complete the vaccination, start dates will be adjusted.
