Amazon Head of Technical Asset Management , Global Fleet & Carriers in Bellevue, Washington

The Head of Technical Asset Management is responsible for overseeing the technical operations of the aircraft fleet, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and managing the technical aspects of aircraft purchase, leasing, deliveries, returns, and conversions. This role requires extensive technical expertise and experience in the leasing and airline industry, with a strong focus on asset management and airline operation of freighter aircraft. The role includes managing a team while working closely with internal and external partners for fleet transactions.

Key job responsibilities

  • Aircraft Deliveries and Returns: Coordinate and manage the technical aspects of aircraft deliveries and returns as well as bridging, conformity activities and acceptance to third party carriers, including aircraft modifications and specifications. Ensure all aircraft meet the carrier’s technical and operational standards before acceptance. Oversee the inspection and documentation process during aircraft returns.

  • Lease Agreement Management: Review and negotiate technical terms in lease agreements. Ensure compliance with lease terms and conditions throughout the lease period. Manage lease transitions, including redelivery conditions and end-of-lease inspections. Liaise with lessors on technical matters

  • Asset Management: Develop and implement strategies for maintaining and enhancing the value of aircraft assets. Coordinate with tech ops, fleet transaction, carriers, finance and legal teams to manage asset-related financial and contractual obligations. Coordinate engagement with OEMs including manual access, modifications, spare parts requirements. Selection of 3P to support records reviews, inspections and ancillary activities.

  • Aircraft Conversion Projects: Lead and oversee passenger-to-freighter conversions. Ensure all conversion projects meet regulatory and safety standards. Coordinate with engineering teams and external vendors to manage project timelines and budgets.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all technical operations comply with aviation regulations and industry standards. Liaise with aviation authorities and regulatory bodies as needed. Stay updated on changes in aviation regulations and implement necessary adjustments.

  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor a team of technical professionals. Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team skills and knowledge. Foster a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement within the technical team.

A day in the life

Oversee deliveries and review daily status of each aircraft in the delivery program, including discussions with conversion provider, lessor, aircraft manufacturer, for technical acceptances and larger issues. Review status of return and retirement programs. Review any LOI or lease/purchase agreement in the pipeline. Manage each team member work stream. Oversee team's weekly flash and interactions with NWP, NCC, Tech ops, legal, finance. Oversee records reviews, inspections, technical acceptances. Monitor entry into service of aircraft and any support for ground operations.

About the team

The Fleet and Carriers team sits in the FAST group (Fleet Aviation Sourcing and Technical) and is structured around several key pillars: the fleet team responsible for fleet strategy, planning, transactions, sourcing and retirement; the aircraft technical team manages conversions, deliveries, lease compliance, returns, records, and technical asset management; the carriers commercials handles relationships with airlines and cargo operators focusing on contracts and payments; the international team in charge of charters and international expansion. The team manages more than 100 aircraft, induction of new aircraft type such as the A330, and seven operators on a global basis.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Aviation Management, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in the aviation industry, with a focus on aircraft leasing, asset management, and technical operations.

  • Experience managing aircraft deliveries, returns, and conversions.

  • Knowledge of aviation regulations and industry standards, with a focus on airline conformity and aircraft requirements.

  • Experience in negotiation for large scale initiatives.

  • Experience managing multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with delivery and operation of cargo aircraft in commercial operations.

  • Familiarity with aircraft maintenance and engineering processes, including A330, 767, 737

  • Proficiency in using aviation management software and tools.

  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $175,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $302,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
