Amazon Field Support Technician, AFT Data Collection in Bellevue, Washington

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers Amazon’s global fulfillment network by designing and building the software, hardware and processes that enable our customers to get what they want, when they want it. AFT supports the installation and maintenance of thousands of data collection systems, supporting the technical and maintenance teams in Amazon Fulfillment Centers to keep our data flowing at the highest quality.

Our team develops computer vision/machine learning solutions deployed in Amazon Fulfilment Centers globally. We design develop and deploy large-scale systems that assist quality and fulfilment teams in delivering products to Amazon's customers. Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will be an advocate for Data Collection and Quality in Amazon FCs. You will support local teams and enable them to maintain their AFT-deployed systems in order produce optimal-quality data in the field. You will be a subject-matter expert in how to maintain and operate AFT systems, and will teach RME and IT teams the processes and best-practises for them.

The Field Support Technician is technically-minded and comfortable with the use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computer vision and mechatronic systems. They should be able to learn and understand the inner workings of machine-vision data collection systems, then translate them to techncial support teams in the field. They are a leader and can effectively communicate technical details and provide hands-on training for specialized hardware and maintenance processes. They dive deep into how best to maintain advanced imaging systems and impart that knowledge to their peers.

The Field Support Technician is highly self-managed and can work unsupervised in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities to effect the site visit plans and strategies developed with AFT Data Collection teams. They are comfortable working in a role where the problems may have never been solved before.

A day in the life

The Field Support Technician is a travel-heavy role, where each week brings you to a new city with a different set of FCs, each with its own AFT Data Collection systems. You will engage with one or more FCs per week to plan and run training sessions, check the operational status of fielded systems, assist with targetted troubleshooting, and be a representative of AFT in the field. You will support trouble ticketing for global issues.

Frequently, you may run into unique technical troubleshooting challenges where you will need to work alongside AFT engineers and developers to solve.

About the team

AFT Data Collection is a cross-functional team of engineers, scientists, and program managers who work with AFT software developers and quality teams to reliably collect and understand data from real-world products in Amazon Fulfilment Centres. We design and build imaging systems for challenging applications, and we consistently re-invent how data is collected in order to do it. We are a team with global reach and thousands of deployed systems in more than ten countries supporting a growing list of fulfilment processes.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of technical support experience

  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Equivalent technical work experience in Engineering Technology

  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time

  • Familiarity with basic tools and mechanical processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Amazon RME experience in mechatronics or controls

  • Amazon OTS experience in IPC deployment and networking

  • Unix experience

  • Prior experience working with machine vision cameras and sensors

  • Ability to travel internationally

  • Experience presenting material to technical audiences and leading hands-on training

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $52,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $118,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
