Amazon Design Program Manager, Global Realty Building Design in Bellevue, Washington

Amazon is seeking a Design Program Manager (DPM) within the Global Realty Building Design (GBD) team, who is responsible for developing innovative and sustainable customer fulfillment and logistics building design solutions for Worldwide Operations. The successful candidate will support cross functional teams by creating Amazon’s design criteria and building design templates that govern the design of these technologically advanced facilities. This includes responsibility for coordination of up to 30 technical, operational, and functional stakeholder groups representing internal operations, process design, engineering, critical security and safety in the development of integrated facility designs.

A successful DPM must be able to work independently with internal and external teams to successfully manage difficult, cross-functional projects. The candidate will have a proven track record of creating products that simplify recurring business problems in an extremely fast paced environment, and driving clarity through ambiguity. They must be proficient at transforming abstract and conceptual ideas into clear, consistent, and accurate documentation. They will keep the scope of effort under control to accelerate progress by driving crisp and timely decisions, identifying and clearing blockers, and escalating appropriately. They will establish and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders, managers, and peers, recognizing discordant views and taking part in constructive dialogue to resolve them.

Key job responsibilities

  • Support a multi-disciplinary team that is creating sustainable, efficient, economical, and standardized customer fulfillment and logistics building designs in North America

  • Coordinate and collaborate with a wide variety of internal operations, design, and engineering stakeholders to increase the efficiency and efficacy of the building design program.

  • Demonstrate performance that serves as a model of excellence establishing business requirements, design team collaboration, and stakeholder alignment.

  • Direct third-party architects, engineers and designers responsible for creating the building design templates (i.e. prototypes) for customer fulfillment and logistics buildings.

  • Support workshops that drive alignment on key issues for new building designs and initiatives to drive the associate experience, operational efficiency, and reduction of first and lifecycle costs.

  • Conduct technical reviews of building models to develop efficient workflow practices. Improve production, procedures, visualizations, standards, and methodologies to increase efficiency and quality.

  • Provide project support for operations network buildings including fulfillment, sortation, and/or last mile facilities.

  • Drive compliance of Amazon's worldwide design standards.

  • Develop strategic building solutions which meet or exceed our quality requirements and drive value engineering and standardization across all aspects of the facility.

About the team

Global Realty Building Design (GBD) is the single-threaded-owner of building design templates (prototype design) that provide innovative and technical solutions for the Worldwide Operations network from within the Global Realty Development organization. GBD leverages technology and tools to develop key insights to create industry leading logistics building designs that are safe, sustainable, efficient, economical, and innovative for Worldwide Operations real estate in North America, Europe, and Latin America.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of technical infrastructure management experience

  • Architect with 5+ years of experience leading technical industrial or similar projects

  • Experience with building design and construction project management, including programming, design, construction, and operations, as well as project planning for scope, schedule, and budgets

  • Vendor management of subconsultant teams from RFP through project completion

  • Demonstrated expertise in software programs for BIM360, Revit, Bluebeam, and/or AutoCAD

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to clearly define intent and drive solutions with multiple stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in architecture, engineering, or business

  • Architectural Registration, Professional Engineer Registration, CEM and/or other building professional accreditation

  • LEED AP BD+C and/or PHIUS+ certification

  • PMP certification

  • Experience with dRofus, BSD Speclink, Asana, arcGIS and/or AWS products

  • Proven experience implementing and managing a building design program including development of templates (aka prototypes), technical specifications, and design standards

  • Technological strategy knowledge and understanding in support of architectural innovation in the industry

  • Dive Deep to help understand product processing and integration with buildings

  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous situation and navigate blockers and deliver projects

  • Invent and create simplified products to support customer goals.

  • Strong competency with time management, organization, and attention to detail

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $87,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $197,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
