Description
The Rural & Super Rural (RSR) Design Engineering team is seeking a versatile, solutions-oriented Design Engineer to drive new automation initiatives and develop the next generation of world-class industrial building designs. This is an exciting opportunity to tackle complex challenges with boundless innovation.
In this role, you will focus on integrating automation and robotics solutions into the design of warehouses and delivery centers. You will apply strong analytical skills to evaluate design options, optimize performance, and ensure the successful implementation of design projects. The role includes close collaboration with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies and develop simulation models to support strategic decision-making.
We seek resourceful engineers who are critical thinkers and excel at cross-functional collaboration. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to design high-quality, cost-effective solutions for our delivery stations. You will be part of a team of highly skilled and engaged engineers in a fast-paced, often ambiguous environment.
Key job responsibilities
•Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects, retrofits, and building designs
•Design and develop efficient layouts for warehouses and delivery centers, optimizing space and workflow
•Integrate automation solutions into facility designs, ensuring scalability and efficiency
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies
•Develop and utilize simulation models to evaluate design options and optimize performance
•Conduct spatial integration and trade studies for proposed designs and automation projects
•Ensure successful project implementation from concept through to design completion, adhering to timelines and quality standards
•Communicate effectively, execute the vision, and present detailed technical solutions to senior executives
A day in the life
A typical day involves diving into CAD software and analytical models to create and optimize delivery station layouts. You'll analyze high-level demand projections to inform design decisions, ensuring future scalability. Collaborating with operations teams, you'll translate workflow needs into practical designs. Expect to juggle multiple projects, participating in design review meetings and coordinating with architects and civil engineering on detail drawings. You'll troubleshoot design challenges, develop simulation models, conduct capacity analyses, and stay updated on industry innovations. The role demands a balance of analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, technical expertise, and effective communication to meet operational goals and deadlines.

Basic Qualifications
•Bachelor's degree in Engineering
•5+ years experience in Design Engineering, systems integration or control systems design with a focus on automation, robotics or aerospace systems
•5+ years experience with system architecture, system simulation and analysis, optimization, and statistical analysis
•5+ years experience with ownership/management of engineering design projects
Preferred Qualifications
•Master's degree in Engineering, or Mathematics
•Proficiency in analyzing data and performance metrics to inform design decisions and improve system efficiency
•Proficiency in developing mathematical and optimization models to navigate complex variables and optimize for specific objectives
•Experience in designing and implementing integrated systems for industrial or warehouse environments
•Experience on a product development team or in innovation/Research & Development
•Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL) for data manipulation.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
