Muckleshoot Indian Tribe IT Low Voltage Technician ($62,568 - $93,583) Annually DOE in Auburn, Washington

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing low voltage wiring, equipment, and fixtures specifically for IT infrastructure, including network cabling, surveillance cameras and cabling, data centers, and other IT-related systems.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Examine IT systems to locate problems, such as loose connections or broken insulation in network cables.

  • Test and troubleshoot network cables, fiber optic cables, UPS batteries, and other IT hardware to ensure proper functioning and diagnose malfunctions.

  • Install and mount network equipment, video cameras, audio/video equipment, and attach network cabling to connect components.

  • Install, maintain, and repair network cabling systems, following blueprints of electrical layouts and building plans tailored for IT infrastructure, and update blueprints and building plans to reflect all changes made.

  • Feed cables through access holes, roof spaces, and cavity walls to reach network outlets; then position and terminate cables, wires, and strapping.

  • Inspect installation sites and study work orders, building plans, and installation manuals to determine materials requirements and installation procedures for IT systems.

  • Test and repair IT circuits and sensors, following wiring and system specifications.

  • Drill holes for wiring in wall studs, joists, ceilings, or floors as needed to install IT systems.

  • Inform IT staff regarding cabling installations and explain details, such as location, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures.

  • Provide the IT department with cost estimates for equipment and cabling installation.

  • Work with outside low voltage electrical contractors to define the parameters of work being done by the contractor on larger jobs, and secure documents such as quotes, as built plans, invoices, and warranties.

  • Order replacement parts and manage inventory for IT infrastructure maintenance.

  • Keep informed of new products and developments in IT and network technologies.

  • Mount raceways and conduits and fasten wires to wood framing, using staplers.

  • Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Required:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Three (3) years’ experience running low voltage cable.

    Preferred:

  • Washington State EL01 or EL06 electrical license

Computers and Electronics— Knowledge of circuit boards, electronic equipment, electronic and electrical test equipment, computer networking hardware, and software applications appropriate for the position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is subject to inclement weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places. The employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Licenses or Certifications Required

A current and valid Washington State driver’s license; a Washington State EL01 or EL06 electrical license.
