Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking an Assembler Precision Bench C to join our team in Auburn, WA.

Mechanics in this position assemble precision aircraft components and sub-assemblies such as, control linkages, actuators. These assemblies are later incorporated into larger assemblies that are installed on an airplane. Employment in this position also requires handling, lifting less than 10 pounds, rotation of head/neck, sitting, standing, use of low impact vibratory tools, walking, contact with metals, solvents, exposure to noise and atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face, eyes and feet.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Obtain work assignment from lead or supervisor.

  • Obtain appropriate engineering drawing(s) for assigned job.

  • Obtain and verify kitted (pre-picked) detail parts, standards and assemblies were issued correctly by comparing part numbers and quantities to work order (W/O) and/or Bill Of Material (BOM) on drawing(s).

  • Ensure that parts issued are effective for the airplane and are free of visible defects. Locate parts on assembly tools, mating parts and/or assemblies per drawing, W/O, or tooling instructions.

  • Align parts to tool stops, matching pilot holes or by hand layout (as required) and secure in place using Clecos or tooling/hand clamps.

  • Check for good edge margins and alignment. Shim parts as required.

  • Drill, ream, and countersink full size holes in parts/assemblies in proper sequence and to correct size, per drawing, W/O or tooling instructions using drill motor (e.g., Winslow, 90-Degree Power Vane, or Quackenbush).

  • Disassemble parts and deburr holes using chip chasers, deburring tools and files to prepare for installation of fasteners.

  • Use solvents to clean surfaces prior to sealing or assembly. Cold work holes to prepare for close tolerance fastener installation, as required.

  • Shot peen surfaces per W/O to meet Boeing (BAC) specifications. Install bushings into housings using arbor press and/or hydraulic puller.

  • Apply liquid nitrogen to facilitate installation of bushings, as required, per BAC specifications. Roller/anvil swage or ball stake bearings and bushings into housings per BAC specifications.

  • Install hardware on electrical assemblies (e.g., plugs, switches, ground studs). Use insertion tools to install wiring in plugs.

  • Perform functional check of ground studs to ensure proper operation per BAC specifications. Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., paints, sealants and solvents) in approved manner.

  • Install fasteners per drawing using correct tools (e.g., rivet gun and bucking bar, lock bolt puller, power screwdriver, C-squeeze, ratchet wrench, nut runner).

  • Torque fasteners per BAC specifications. Micro shave high rivets to meet drawing requirements.

  • Apply sealant, alodine, primer, adhesives, and special finishes, as required by W/O, drawing or BAC specifications using the appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Clean parts and identify by part marking per work order and specifications using appropriate tools (e.g., vibro engraver, dot peen machine, chemical etch), as required.

  • Check work after completion of each operation in job and/or completed job to ensure assembly is complete per drawing, that there are no defects (e.g., gapped heads, high rivets, tool marks, incorrect length fasteners) prior to putting up for inspection.

  • Sell completed job or in-process checks to inspector at appropriate steps in sequence. Perform minor rework, as required (e.g., pick-ups).

  • Contact lead, supervisor or other appropriate personnel when assistance is needed or when any problem arises.

  • Maintain personal and tool certifications, as required.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience utilizing and following detailed work instructions, reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, or specifications Basic computer skills

  • 1+ years of experience using software applications for internet navigation, email, Microsoft Suite and/or other specialized computer applications

  • 1+ years of experience with using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers and dial indicators, etc.

  • 1+ years of experience using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Able to work 2nd shift & extended hours with short notice if needed to cover absences or adjoining shifts.

Typical Education:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This position is for 2nd shift.

  • This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.

Summary pay range: $ 19- $41.62
