Basic FunctionHollyFrontier Corporation, located in Anacortes, WA is seeking a Process Safety Engineer.This position is the site MOC process focal point. Under close and frequent supervision, this position also supports the senior process safety engineers in performing the various process safety engineering job functions. Job DutiesCoordinates and carries out assignments with other departments as applicableHelps with PHAs, LOPAs, MOC training/work process improvements, Facility Siting, LOPC tracking/review, assurance, records management, risk management.May be required to do some or all of the following:Performs engineering calculations (i.e. mass balances, energy balances, and conversion calculations)Gathers, analyzes, interprets, acts upon, and disseminates pertinent data.Generates and maintains key performance indicators for assigned focal point role(s)Learn, understand and interpret local, state and federal regulations related to process safety managementConduct research to develop new and improved process safety management processesImplement processes and controls to meet safety standards in the most cost efficient manner Investigate and recommend solutions to work-in-process problems Recommend and assist with implementing improvements and/or modification in sequence of operations, equipment utilization, and related matters in a safe mannerReview and make recommendations pertaining to proposals of outside vendors regarding process safety processes and site risksGenerate and/or modify P&ID'sPerform sketches, technical comparisons and similar technical work as required by assignmentSpecial assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from timeto time in their sole and complete discretionExperience0-2 years of progressive work experience in engineering discipline.Education LevelA minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineeringis required. Preferred Educational Level:Ability to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam within six months of hire preferred.Prior process safety experience is preferred. Required SkillsBasic knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically. Basic ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential. Advanced reading and writing skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with others. Ability to perform advanced mathematical calculationsPreferred Skills:Basic knowledge of Microsoft products and experience with engineering software is preferred.Work ConditionsOffice and Petroleum Refinery/Industrial environment based with up to 10% travel required by land or air. Subject to varying road and weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures including out-of-doors. Required to work in a warehouse/plant environment and out of doors. Works near moving mechanical parts and/or rotating equipment. Work in office at computer leading discussion with small groups for extended periods of time.
