Basic FunctionHF Sinclair in Anacortes, WA is seeking a Process Safety Engineer. The Process Safety Engineer conducts engineering assignments for the Process Safety Department while working independently and acting as a resource and subject matter expert for department. Job DutiesCoordinate, facilitate and scribe Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)Review process changes for impacts to Process Safety via Management of Change (MOC)Site Subject Matter Expert for Managing RiskConduct Peer Reviews of PHAs conducted by othersRevise existing or create site-wide Process Safety proceduresReview, understand and interpret local, state and federal regulations related to process safety managementSupport department in Facility Siting, LOPC tracking/review, and Process Safety AssuranceAct as a mentor to Process Safety TeamTrack process safety performance measures and recommend improvementsUse knowledge and experience to ensure safe and environmentally secure operationsPresent process safety results to managementMay be required to do some or all of the following:Develop and provide training on PHA and LOPA facilitation and general training on Management Of Change (MOC) and Pre-start up Safety Reviews (PSSR)Participate in, facilitate and support Process Safety related audits and assist in Process Safety action item solution developmentUpdate the Refinery Risk Management Program (RMP) as neededMaintain the site Hazard and Effects RegisterReview and make recommendations pertaining to proposals of outside vendors regarding process safety processes and site risksParticipate in and facilitate Incident InvestigationsRecommend and implement improvements and/or modifications in Process SafetyAct as a liaison between the company and county, state and/or other agenciesSpecial assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from timeto time in their sole and complete discretion.ExperienceA minimum of eight years of progressive work experience in engineering discipline is required. Prior Process Safety experience including facilitation of PHAs and LOPAs is required.Preferred ExperienceProfessional Engineer registration and refinery or petrochemical industry experience.Education LevelA minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in engineering discipline is required.Required SkillsTechnical expert in Process Safety. Advanced ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes and apply knowledge analytically. Strong knowledge of Microsoft products and commonly used engineering concepts and experience with engineering software. Familiarity with standards and practices of the specific discipline. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, advanced reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations. Supervisory/Managerial ResponsibilityNone.Work ConditionsOffice and plant based with up to 10% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, and out-of-doors environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, wet and/or oil contaminated conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions, and working in confined spaces. Subject to all temperatures, weather and varying road conditions. Work in office at computer leading discussion with small groups for extended periods of time.
