POSITION SUMMARY:

The Anacortes, WA Refinery has an opening for a qualified Lab Technician. This position is full-time, salaried non-exempt in a 24-7 lab. This is a 7 on 7 off rotating 12-hour shift schedule. This schedule rotates days and nights. A typical work week will be Friday through Thursday with a start time of 6 o’clock.

The successful candidate will be considered an essential and active member that supports our refinery. This candidate will have a primary objective to perform lab operations in a safe, environmentally sound and reliable manner. See key responsibilities below.

Pay and Benefits:

The total base salary range for this role is $58,200-100,300/yr with highly competitive benefits including retirement and medical. Overtime may be required. Starting salary depends on qualifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: (include but are not limited to):

  • Prepare standards, calibrate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair instrumentation.

  • Prepare chemical reagents needed to perform routine testing.

  • Perform physical and chemical testing on various hydrocarbon samples using a variety of techniques.

  • Utilize and understand how to use a basic LIMS system.

  • Run proper QC and maintain records per lab protocols.

  • Understand and maintain laboratory documentation practices.

  • Perform required environmental testing for wastewater permits and generate the necessary reports.

  • Perform special projects and testing as assigned by Chemists or Lab Supervision

  • Perform daily QC checks on lab instrumentation to ensure quality assurance.

  • Trains Laboratory Technicians in the use of instruments/new methods.

  • Be responsible for making hand blends to perform routine or special testing.

  • Be responsible for reporting data with accuracy and precision.

  • Follow all laboratory Safety, SQC and test method procedures.

  • Ability to physically perform all duties required which may involve (among others): bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying loads up to 40 lbs.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or science equivalent with a minimum of 20 credit hours in chemistry.

  • One year or more of analytical laboratory experience preferred.

  • Familiarity and knowledge of the testing methods and chemical substance used in a refining lab is ideal.
