Dakota Creek Industries is looking for an efficient payroll clerk to be responsible for all tasks involved in assisting our Payroll Specialist. The payroll clerk has a range of duties that include maintaining reports, assisting with payroll preparation and processing and managing employee files in our payroll system. To be successful at our company you should be able to carry out all tasks with high attention to detail.

 

Duties:

  • File, create & maintain employee documents for record such as I9 Documents, Direct Deposit forms, and Washington State 4/10 Agreements.
  • Assist in updating payroll software with company guidelines.
  • Process new & past employees in our payroll software.
  • Create and archive physical employee files.
  • Enter all processed Prevailing Wage information into WA L&I database.
  • Maintain & update SOC spreadsheet and ensure accuracy in employee file in payroll software.
  • Run Apprenticeship reports for payroll & Apprenticeship team; monthly.
  • Assisting with payroll prep for processing.
  • Assist with other relevant tasks as needed.

     

Requirements:

  • Minimum High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of prior experience as a Payroll Assistant or related position, preferably within a company of a similar size.
  • Excellent computer skills required.
  • Microsoft Office Suites experience required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and planning skills, time management, prioritization and strategic thinking.
  • eCMS platform or similar experience preferred.
  • L&I Certified Payroll Knowledge
  • Adherence to all prescribed ethical guidelines, including confidentiality.
  • Shipyard or related construction experience welcome but not required.
  • Possess strong communication, prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.

Specific Job Skills:

  • Strong computer skills such as typing, 10-key, system and software knowledge.
  • Accurate data entry skills with great attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to communicate with employees regarding their issues and concerns
  • Good interoffice service skills and sound decision-making skills
  • Ability to multitask in a stressful environment with specific deadlines
  • Ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment
  • Confidentiality and respect for the privacy of employee records

Job Scope:  This position routinely works with minimal supervision after instruction has been given.  Candidates must be motivated and must be able to follow direction.

Interpersonal Contacts:  This position works both independently and as part of a team.  The ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with others within a team, and other trades of the organization is essential in this role.
