L&I; facilities are considered some of the most comfortable, cleanest, well maintained, and safest in state government.As our next Facilities Program Director, you'll ensure this culture continues into the future by recommending the strategic direction for the places where we serve our customers and support each other. You'll be a highly visible member of our Administrative Services leadership team, with many opportunities to work directly with agency executives and act as liaison to other agencies, including the Office of Financial Management, Department of Enterprise Services and Washington's Legislature, and interagency stakeholders. With 24 locations statewide, occupying 700,000 square feet, you'll ensure a safe, modern and efficient customer-service and employee-work environment within budget; partner with the Department of Enterprise Services to complete lease renewal negotiations prior to lease expiration; develop a 6-year facilities plan, 10-year Capital plan, and serve as our Sustainability Coordinator; set strategic level goals and manage the ongoing operations and maintenance of our customer-service and employee building and our Tumwater warehouse, serving 3,200 staff and contractors (headquarters building and 22 leased field offices); and oversee project management and funding for a new Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) safety lab and training facility that will be built in Olympia. You'll lead a team of 19 professionals in 3 specialized support units: Facilities Planning Operations; Headquarters Building and Grounds Maintenance Operations; and Warehouse Operations.

Your initial success will be measured through: Assessing statewide facility needs to solve future needs with innovative options. Constructing the new DOSH safety lab and training facility in Olympia. Lead and complete Lean projects within the Facilities Services Program to improve efficiency and customer service and eliminate waste. Coach and mentor staff to use Lean management and problem solving tools, visual management, and standardized work.

Here's What We're Looking For

  • Significant training and experience in architecture, engineering, construction management, facilities management or a similar field and a Bachelor's Degree;
  • Five years of lead experience building relationships and coordinating funding and oversight activities with key stakeholders such as the Office of Financial Management, Department of Enterprise Services, local municipalities, or Washington's Legislature on high-risk and high-profile capital projects and/or large-scale facility-related construction projects;
  • Technical background in space planning, building systems, project management and/or personnel leadership;
  • Knowledge and experience with Lean or Six Sigma concepts, tools, and techniques;
  • Clear and concise communicator;
  • Open communicator and proactive listener.
