POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Pool Manager will be responsible for assisting with the development, supervision and implementation of all aquatic programs and services at the assigned facility. The Pool Manager also promotes and ensures a safe Aquatics environment achieving exemplary customer satisfaction and member retention.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Monitors staff behavior, including lifeguard and swim instructor skills, and encourages good behaviors and applications of skills to motivate staff
  2. Supervise lifeguard staff during emergency situations, ensuring the proper application of skills and procedures, assisting, when necessary, facilitate and submit documentation of incidents/accidents, and debrief situation with staff
  3. Patrol and monitor the active pool area, engaging with members, swim lesson students, and program participants throughout your shift
  4. Schedule Aquatics staff for shifts, coordinating break and meal periods to keep employees engaged and alert
  5. Report sanitation issues, unacceptable water quality, and maintenance and supply needs to supervisors and/or Facilities department when necessary
  6. Ensure staff are completing daily tasks and engaging with members throughout their shifts
  7. Responsible for all pool programming & staff scheduling to run the programs successfully and administers training to staff to reinforce safety skills. 
  8. Knows and reviews all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies and procedures, responding to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA protocol

* QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • Certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens, and completion of YMCA program-specific trainings upon hire
    1. Administering Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard Instructor, and AFO or CPO certifications preferred
  • Two years of college or equivalent preferred.
  • Three years of related experience in aquatic programming and/or six months of supervisory experience
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards and maintain certification-levels of physical and mental readiness.

The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, move around on the pool deck, and assist patrons of all ages in the pools.

The employee is frequently required to utilize oral and listening comprehension and expression to observe distress signals in the Aquatics Environment and enforce safety regulations.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds and perform in-water and on-land rescues for patrons of various body weights.
