Amazon DataZone is looking for an user experience designer to join us as we innovate and redefine data experiences in Amazon Web Services to accelerating data insights with effortless collaboration and governance.

Key job responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design of useful, usable, and delightful products in a team environment

  • Create user-centered designs by considering expert opinion, market analysis, customer feedback, and usability findings

  • Use business requirements, market research, and collective wisdom of the team to assist in developing use cases, high-level requirements

  • Design the UI architecture, interface, and interaction flow of new web applications

  • Organize and maintain our design system; contribute to visual design decisions for enterprise software

  • Develop conceptual sketches, diagrams, wireframes, hi-fidelity mockups, and prototypes

  • Deliver the right level of detail for design specifications to support implementation

  • Present concepts and finished work to the UX team, product team, and executives for review and feedback

  • Contribute to the product and design team’s shared knowledge of user-centered design and research activities and methods

A day in the life

As a DataZone user experience designer, you need to be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven’t been solved at scale before. You will be responsible for leading a variety of design initiatives across the entire product. This position requires customer focus, the ability to dive deep, and the confidence to make hard decisions fast. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast-paced startup like environment. To be successful, you will need to be highly motivated and detail oriented.

About the team

Amazon DataZone is a data management service that enable customers to find, understand, trust, and use data faster through a unified service for cataloging, discovery, sharing, governing, and analyzing data. With Amazon DataZone, administrators and data stewards who oversee an organization's data assets can manage and govern access to data using fine-grained controls. Amazon DataZone makes it easier for data engineers, data scientists, product managers, analysts, and business users to access data throughout an organization to derive data-driven insights. You will work alongside product management, senior UX designers, and engineering partners to define and build the essential lovable product for our customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar design-related role experience

  • Have an online portfolio or samples of work on resume, demonstrating experience creating great end-to-end, user-centered design solutions and patterns, across desktop and mobile devices

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience organizing and evolving a design system in partnership with front-end engineers

  • 3+ years of experience designing for web-based enterprise-scale applications that serve a variety of personas and transactional systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI)

  • Experience designing complex enterprise systems

  • Experience designing user interfaces for data catalog or analytics products

  • Visual design expertise demonstrated at appropriate fidelity (concept sketch, mockup, and atomic design system)

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Experience working in a collaborative team, working directly with developers on implementation quality

  • Experience with Figma, InVision, Illustrator, Storybook and a quick learner on new tools

  • A portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience co-creating design documentation (journey maps, wireframes, empathy map, etc.), and utilizing qualitative research methods (card sorting, contextual inquiry)

  • Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $94,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $184,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
