The Head of Executive Recruiting for Consumer will be a strategic partner within the executive leadership team and be the single point of contact for executive recruiting for Amazon’s Consumer business including retail and sellers. This leader will guide the team to transform from a successful in-house search firm to an always on conduit of the best talent. While the team will continue to have specific searches, this leader will guide the team to be less transactional and toward dedicated, always on efforts for key talent profiles. This requires a different partnership and level of investment by the business. This leader will inherit a talented team and will add capacity to the team as needed to meet the leadership hiring objectives for executive band leadership. S/he will focus on developing talented lead executive recruiters into strong managers/successors and talent consultants versus search consultants.

This leader will participate in succession planning and organizational leadership reviews to learn about our talent and talent gaps and to enable him/her to think proactively about leadership needs to stay ahead of or least keep pace with the business.

The Head of Consumer Executive Recruiting will ensure that leadership bandwidth is not a constraint to the growth of the business. The successful candidate will be focused on how to grow, scale and optimize executive recruitment efforts globally in an environment of growing demand. The key goals for this role include the following: (i) developing new strategies and processes to identify a pipeline of talent and help scale executive recruiting efforts; (ii) leading, managing and developing a world class in-house executive recruitment team; (iii) exploring variables beyond a resume that can make someone successful at Amazon, including ways to leverage data and technology in new ways.

S/he will be responsible for both overseeing and managing searches for key clients, as well as serving as a key advisor and partner to the SVP, North American Retail (Doug Herrington), SVP, Amazon Marketplace (Sebastian Gunningham), the SVP of the Consumer business (Jeff Wilke) and their direct teams. S/he will provide expert counsel, insight, strategy, and reliable execution in support of the business worldwide. Given the strategic significance of the Consumer business, this leader will have the opportunity to develop significant influence and visibility across the organization and within the leadership team in Seattle.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have expertise as a strategic thought partner and business leader in a human resources role. Ideally, s/he will have experience with executive recruiting and/or talent acquisition, as well as some professional services experience and/or experience working with technology or digital companies. If s/he does not have human resources experience, then s/he must be passionate about talent and building teams and have a successful track record of doing so as a business leader.

S/he will have a demonstrable track record of success and achievement working in a high-growth business, and have worked at organizations with a global reach and mindset. This person will be adept at consulting with senior-level individuals, including building successful relationships with clients, where insight, responsiveness and understanding their business are key, as well as with candidates where understanding their individual needs is key.

The successful candidate will have outstanding leadership and strategic and analytical thinking skills. An ability to figure things out without a road map, transform organizations, as well as break the mold in terms of ways to re-frame and solve problems, will be important. The successful candidate will be data driven and able to look at variables beyond a resume that can make someone successful at Amazon, and be able to apply data/technology to the process of recruiting.

S/he must have strong discipline and delivery skills, and be able to focus attention to bring projects to conclusion. Strong listening and writing skills are crucial.
