Center for Infectious Disease Research Research Technician - Smith Lab in Seattle, Washington
The Smith Lab at the Center for Infectious Disease Research is seeking a Research Technician (level I or II) to start immediately. The position involves experimental research examining vascular dysfunction in cerebral malaria.
The successful applicant will be fully integrated into ongoing projects and will be expected to design, execute and analyze experiments with appropriate supervision. Enthusiasm and initiative to learn new methods and to perform work efficiently and carefully are essential. Training in techniques that are unfamiliar will be provided. Candidates should have a bachelor´s degree in an appropriate field, such as molecular/cellular biology or biochemistry.
- General tissue culture and maintenance of multiple malaria parasite strains and human endothelial cells
- Molecular cloning and PCR
- Assist in general lab support
The following are required:
- Experience in laboratory research for at least 6 months (undergraduate research is acceptable)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Occasional weekend work
Familiarity with the following techniques is a plus:
- Cell culture
- RNA extraction
- Microscopy and image processing
