DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Annual Giving and Stewardship Officer (Development Officer (E S 7)) will have the following responsibilities:

Annual Giving

  • Develop and implement strategy for the Burke Museum Annual Giving Program for donors up to $25,000.

  • Maintain Donor Giving Circles for annual giving in the $1,000-$25,000 range and deliver on promised benefits each year, and implement general Annual Fund management.

  • Actively identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of 50 donors and track this work using Central Advancement’s new “Leadership Gifts System.”

  • Develop and implement a solicitation strategy for each assigned prospect.

  • Prepare written proposals, informational materials, endowment agreements, and other materials needed to secure gifts.

  • Participate cooperatively in the University’s prospect management and tracking system.

  • Proactively reach out to qualify leads through cold calls and emails making a minimum of 25 new contacts each year.

  • Identify engagement opportunities for these new relationships.

  • In consultation with the Director of Development, establish personal goals, objectives and strategies for fundraising.

  • Participate in assessing progress toward goals.Donor Strategy and Stewardship

  • Work closely with the Director of Development to develop strategies for donor stewardship; proactively manage staff and volunteers to implement agreed-upon strategies.

  • Staff the executive director, development director, and board members to achieve stewardship goals.

  • Track this work in Tandem through contact reports and proposal updates.

  • Plan and implement stewardship events through production of invitation lists, invitations, catering arrangements, and delivery of other materials as needed.

  • Develop and distribute stewardship correspondence including mail, email and other outreach.

  • Collaborate with other Museum divisions to broaden the donor experience.Divisional Fundraising

  • Work with curators and/or collections managers to coordinate and facilitate their divisional/endowment fundraising efforts.

  • Provide support, coaching, and advice on strategy to divisional staff to achieve maximum effectiveness and consistency with overall development plan.Reporting and Data Management

  • Research and track prospects within the database, and pull lists and reports for major gift efforts.

  • Work with the Annual Giving Specialist and Finance Director to ensure effective communication and increased efficiencies around gift tracking and reconciliation.Public Outreach

  • Recruit volunteers and cultivate relationships as needed to accomplish program goals and build support for the Burke Museum.

  • Support the creation and production of Burke Museum publications, correspondence, and other communications, as needed.Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • At least three years of development/fundraising experience.

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working with budgets, preparing financial spreadsheets, and tracking expenditures.

  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Word, Excel. Must have proven database management experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service. Poised, professional manner with the ability to work well with diverse types of individuals over the telephone, in written correspondence, and in-person. Ability to communicate clearly, diplomatically, and effectively.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting. Ability to problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, handle multiple projects, and exercise good judgment in a fast pace, dynamic, deadline driven environment in an organized and professional manner.

  • Attention to accuracy, detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties.

  • Experience handling sensitive, confidential material.

  • Knowledge of UW Advancement policies and procedures, including use of the donor database Tandem.

  • Strong team orientation, exemplary project management skills and a high customer service focus.

  • Highly organized, ability to multi-task and flexibility to adapt to a dynamic work environment.

  • Working knowledge of higher education and museums. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evening hours.

  • Ability to lift 40-45 pounds, occasionally.

  • Ability to work regularly in an open environment with both visual and audible distractions.
