Summary of Duties
The primary focus of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program is business development education through individual and small group advising.
The position is responsible for supervision of those advisors and specialists located in the region including the completion of annual reviews. Participates in SBDC Network strategic planning and implementation as a member of the Leadership Team. Facilitates the development and integration of advisor and specialist work plans in response to the Network Strategic Plan. Participates with Network Executive team in the development and deployment of a management system to examine performance trends and drive continuous improvement. Responsible for routinely verifying and validating the accuracy of key performance measures and results and translating those findings into priorities for improvement as well as communicating resource needs to Network Executive team. Acts as a coach or mentor, assisting clients in developing or improving their business management skills in order to effectively manage the operations of their business. In the process, maintains strict confidentiality of all client information and follows conflict of interest policies of the SBDC program. In addition to the instruction/advising component of the job, the Regional Manager delivers significant outreach to the community through regular engagement with Chambers of Commerce, Economic Development Councils, service clubs and community organizations.

A Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to area of specialization and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Robust computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency with Word, Powerpoint, email and Excel applications. The successful candidate is required to complete WSBDC certification within six months of being hired — or be making satisfactory progress toward completion, as determined by the SBDC’s Certification and Professional Development Committee. Upon successful completion, the candidate will be designated a Certified Business Advisor (CBA) and will be expected to pursue on-going professional development and continuing education to maintain his or her certification.
Master’s degree in business or related field.
Five (5) years or more experience in supervising management level personnel including program development and implementation.
Entrepreneurial experience in launching company(s) including strategic planning, growth, acquiring funds, marketing and budgeting.
Experience with SBDC programs and operating philosophy.
