Summary of Duties

This Academic Advisor for the Pre-Nursing program will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work in the dynamic and team oriented Health Professions Student Center (HPSC) serving as the primary resource, mentor, and consultant for students regarding all aspects of their educational development, career planning, course choices, academic major, application for professional schools and personal growth. The position also supports students interested in Pre-Speech and Hearing Science. Additionally, the Advisor is responsible for recruitment and retention activities, providing workshops, teaching modules and program assessment, maintaining good working relationships with faculty and admissions offices for professional schools, and serves as the liaison between HPSC and Nursing programs focusing on improving student matriculation rates. Position includes some evening and weekend work.

Position Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Positions require a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

Additional Requirements

Ability to drive locally to schools, events, and meetings, etc.

Ability to work some evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.

Demonstrated supervisory experience.

Previous experience in higher education setting.
