Washington State DSHS Nursing Assistant/CNA/Mental Health Technician 1 (Non-Perm) in Lakewood, Washington
Over twenty years ago, Western State Hospital(WSH) hired a Mental Health Technician 1,who today serves in a management position. As a Mental Health Technician 1 at WSH, you will find yourself contributing to many meaningful efforts, serving patients on their way back to recovery and sometimes back to the community. Being involved with patients is rewarding in itself, but the challenge of doing so consistently allows for personal growth as well as a deeper understanding of mental illness.
What you will do in this job:
In your role, every day is a little different and so is the variety of your responsibilities. No matter what the day brings, you will always keep a close eye on the patient's behavior and offer help if needed. If the situation calls for it, you will notify other clinical staff for support. You will also assist patients with their daily living activities such as hygiene, meals and ambulatory needs.
Safety for patients and staff is a top priority, so making rounds in the ward and taking census of patients is vital. Should a situation become tense, you will need to de-escalate it and intervene as appropriate. You'll be responsible to keep patients' room neat which means you will be doing some simple housekeeping. You will be part of a team that works and supports each other.
- Provide patients with mental illness routine physical, emotional, psychological, or rehabilitative care under the direction of RN or LPN;
- Complete documentation such as patient's condition and activity;
- Escort patients to programming, activities, and appointments on and off hospital grounds;
- Co-facilitate active treatment/groups in the treatment mall, on the ward and participate in treatment planning as assigned
- Participate in in-service educational programs.

High school diploma or GED ANDa Nursing Assistant Registration (NAR) with the State of WashingtonANDeither has or is eligible for a Food Handler's Permit within 14 days of hire.
